3: Fill out your policies and shipping profiles. This is what eBay uses to automate answers to buyers.

4: Respond to ALL buyer emails within 24 hours. Keep it professional and friendly. Turn off the caps, you don't need to yell, lol. Always sign with a TY or Thx or your Name, this makes it less sterile.

5: Be the bigger person, you have the power to turn around a bad transaction by a great attitude and a calm explanation.

Remember to create a FAQs page in your eBay store too. This will help answer some of those frequently asked questions that buyer have.

Clothing, Shoes & Accessories: As of July 20, item specifics for Brand, Style, Color, Size Type and Size will be required for all new and revised listings in Clothing, Shoes & Accessories categories.

Anyone else think this is asinine? So much for protecting your inventory suppliers - now your competition can steal it even easier! What about vintage items? Custom or hand-made items listed in the regular category?

I love people who make up rules without any idea how in impacts thousands of people's income!

So here's an example for you...funny but i just saw this at a Garage Sale last weekend for $4...the guy would have prob. went down to $3 if i had bought it. Playboy bunny Wilton cake pan...he told me his wife used it once for a shower for a friend - like brand new condition.

i was at Michael's and i knew these cost some $ but wasn't quite sure how much. I passed on this for $3-$4 just do to lack or knowledge or confidence that this would even sell on eBay.

THEN i came home and researched it on Terapeak...i saw a 83% sell through rate and average price of $23. So when you do that math...if Ebay/Paypal takes 20% of a $23 sale...that leaves you with a profit of $18.40...minus $3 for the item at a Garage sale...profit of over $15.

Ok, so if you find 20 items per week to sell at a profit of $15 each you end up with $300 per week of extra money :)

This is very doable...esp. with the summer coming up when people are clearing out things, selling, downsizing, etc.

Terapeak is a great tool for researching item selling prices and much more - for less than $10 a month is very worth it, plus now you can download the APP for the IPhone and research anytime, anywhere!

With three children and a successful on-line apparel business, Angela Fiorelli knows what it’s like to be a modern mom. That’s why she created Fashion Mommy, a home-based clothing company located in Oakley, California that caters to the demographic many have come to know as the “soccer mom,” every kid’s number one fan.

Fiorelli saw a business opportunity in the crucial role mothers play as fans in the realm of youth sports. These days, moms are often seen cheering proudly from the sidelines decked out in fun, flashy fan wear. Fiorelli decided to launch a trademark brand for these “trendy moms” who like to get involved with their children’s activities but still look fashionable. In 2004 she launched her online store, selling hip rhinestone-decorated and plus-size apparel to her fellow moms.

Fashion Mommy’s rhinestone apparel was a huge hit from the start, but it wasn’t until Fiorelli purchased a Roland EGX-350 desktop engraver in 2009 that the company really took flight. After years of outsourcing large quantities of stock, cookie-cutter designs, Fiorelli decided to try Roland’s R-Wear solution to serve customers with smaller, custom orders. “We were quite big before the economy fell and the Roland brought us back up again because we are able to offer a service that not many other sellers have the capacity for,” said Fiorelli.

Serving the custom order market has allowed Fiorelli to increase sales and simultaneously reduce costs by eliminating the need to purchase hundreds of units at a time. “It is completely cost prohibitive to outsource the designs,” said Fiorelli. “With the EGX-350, we can handle smaller production runs, sometimes producing just one unit.”

Although Fashion Mommy now serves customers across the U.S. and internationally, many of their orders come from local sports teams and businesses. Word of mouth is a large part of Fashion Mommy’s success. “One mom will go to a game with a custom rhinestone t-shirt and return with an order for the whole team,” Fiorelli said. Her customers are drawn in by the quality of the product and designs, and many return because of Fiorelli’s commitment to ensuring that their custom orders turn out just the way they intended.

Fiorelli uses Roland’s R-Wear Studio software to keep her clients involved in the design process from start to finish. Fiorelli relishes the challenge of creating a design exactly the way the customer is envisioning it. “I love taking a flat picture and turning it into a sparkling rhinestone design,” said Fiorelli. “The R-Wear Studio software makes the process really easy.”

When a customer contacts Fashion Mommy with a request for a design or custom graphic, Fiorelli lays out the design using R-Wear Studio software. She then sends the client an image of the design with dots in place, showing the correct sizes and colors for the stones. The customer can approve or revise their design to perfection. This process reduces material costs and ensures that Fashion Mommy clients walk away completely satisfied.

Fiorelli’s business continues to grow thanks to the ease of use and dependability of the EGX-350. “All we’ve had to do is clean the machine and change the blades and it works perfectly,” said Fiorelli. “Having the Roland on site drastically cuts the time and costs involved in creating and producing our designs.”

Showcase your items in the best light:

Include high-quality photos showcasing your styles having high-quality pictures will help you take advantage of the more visual shopping experience on new fashion pages, Gallery search results, and "More Like This" results.

* Upload large, high-resolution images at least 1000 pixels on the longest side, and at least 90dpi.

* Make sure photos are well-lit and if you use flash, review photos to verify it hasn't washed out your photos or created shadows or bright spots.

* Focus on keeping images clear and uncluttered. White or neutral backgrounds are best. Try to center the item so that the entire item is in the photo and it takes up 80%-90% of the frame. For smaller items and intricate detail, use a camera with a macro function to zoom in. Retake any blurry images.

* Provide multiple photos that show your item from different angles. Show any wear, tear, or defects to set buyer expectations about imperfect items.

* Use a model, dress form, or mannequin when photographing clothing. It's a better way to show fit than using hangers or laying them on a flat surface. Be sure to show photos of tags on your new items.

* Show the front, back, and designer's label of clothing. Include close-ups of details such as patterns, trims, or textured materials.

* Show shoes from different angles—buyers want to see the front, top, sides, and bottom of soles.

So what is the future of anonymous blogging? Well, if these two decisions mark the beginning of a new trend regarding anonymous Internet communications, the overriding rule must be "Blogger Beware."

Now that a track record of recent sales is a key factor in the sort order for Fixed Price, most sellers are consolidating their listings into fewer low-cost multi-quantity listings. This has proven to be the right strategy for sellers and a great shopping experience for buyers.

eBay has yet again changed a long standing policy on listing items. It is no longer allowed to list or sell used or opened package cosmetics of any kind. This is including, testers, personal make-up or skin care items or opened package items of make-up. So far as i know you can still list used make-up brushes but i expect that to change too.

If you don't already offer a clear return policy, consider the following options to drive your sales:

Refund Remedy (for example, returns accepted for full cash back or store credit)
100% Satisfaction Guaranteed (for example, returns accepted, no questions asked)
Time Limit (for example, returns accepted within 30 days after the item is delivered)
Free Return Shipping (for example, the seller pays for cost of shipping for returned items)

Mention the details upfront

Clearly explain the details of your return policy, so that buyers understand their options while returning items. Consider including details like the following to make your return policy clear:

Time limits: Specify how long buyers have to return the item after they receive it
Refund type: Specify whether you will offer money back, a merchandise credit, or exchange for an identical item.

eBay Research Labs are Helpful!

Getting stuck with the same old titles in your listings? Wondering if they are really effective?

We all get the same 55 characters to use in our title line on eBay but these can make all the difference in your sales! Those 55 letters are responsible for your items exposure, or lack there of. We need to make every listing's title count, and attract as many hits and bids as possible.

Here's a great tool to use - all free from our friends at eBay.

Click on the BayEstimator tab. This will allow you to type in your title and search how popular of a search those words are. The graph will show you green dots next to each word, the larger the green dot the more popular that search word is. Play around with this site as there is so much more to use here than just this.

FIXED PRICE LISTINGS IN BEST MATCH

I have commented before that the new 30 day fixed price listings have some hidden drawbacks that eBay isn't really telling you about. Well, here's another one for you.

Best match is now the default search on the eBay site. Well, eBay now says that the fixed price listings are shown based on a algorithm they have created; that in the best match search results a listing is given more exposure according to how many recent sales (or items sold) from your listing.

So what that means is if you have 2 listings of an item in fixed price format - each listing has a quantity of 5 available. If one listing has sold 2 items in the last 24 hours and the other listing has sold 0 items in the last 24 hours then the listing with 2 recent sales will be given more exposure in the best match search results than the listing that has sold 0.

In short - fixed price listings are pretty much worthless for low or single quantity items since your item will not appear in the best match results as frequently as other listings with recent sales and more quantity.

Now you know the facts.

Hey guys -

So just an update to beware of hidden fees on eBay! The new fixed price listings are only .35 cents - which is great right? However....the FVF is a whopping 12% (of the first $50) instead of the normal 8.25% in auction style listings.

I should have know it was too good to be true!

So check your itemized fees in your seller account tab to make sure of what you're being charged on this new fee structure on eBay.

Robin Hood a Good Citizen?

I just have to share with you guys this. Please forgive me if i'm repeating myself but i ran across this again today and had to vent.

So in my daughters kindergarten school work they list Robin Hood as a great example of a good citizen. Talk about Robin Hood helping people, color pictures of Robin Hood, etc.

Really this is what the state of Ca thinks is a good citizen, a thief, robber? So are they saying the ends justify the means? That because the story goes that Robin Hood robbed from the rich to give to the poor then it's ok to steal...for a good cause of course?

In light of currents events like looting during natural disasters, and the government bailout plan of companies that may be in financial trouble due to misappropriation of funds on the part of already rich people it shouldn't really shock me that Robin Hood would be viewed in this light.

FIXED PRICE LISTINGS ON EbAY

I'm the first to say i wasn't sure about this "fixed price" structure...however so far I'm impressed.
I have listed 200 items some in the fixed price ($.35) and some with the addition of a best offer feature for a small fee.

I have had a number of quick sales from these listings as well as the best offer feature which I'm happy the offers are very reasonable and i have accepted!

As it stands $.35 for 30 days is quite effective for some of my items. I'm still not anticipating using this feature exclusively but I'm happy with limited use of it.

So there are some changes to eBay which is making it more tolerable these days.

#1 No more neutral feedback counting against us like negatives!!! YIPPEEEEEEE! Finally they got some sense and realized we're not so dumb as to let that one slide by.

#2 New lower fees for fixed price listings because of closing eBay Express no doubt but that's still good. Just so that it doesn't flood the marketplace with a bunch of junk but we'll see.

#3 Caps on shipping and handling charges in some categories. Ok this could go good or bad for us though, if it works in some categories then i fear the powers that be might start making caps for ALL categories. We'll have to hold our breath on the results of this one folks.

That being all said i think it's a step in the right direction to getting eBay back on top, as well as a confirmation that those MBA's are actually listening to us....even just a little.

I know most of the info out there says no to flash but I say yes to flash unless you have a really shiny or sequin item. Flash helps fill in the light and gets rid of shadows.

Other stand lights should be positioned at least a couple feet away to cast a larger light area and be as straight on to the garment - pay attention to the shadows in the wall behind - this will show you where the light is going. The lights should be positioned to cast light to all areas of the garment - if you are taking a skirt or dress make sure 1 or 2 is pointed slightly down to prevent the bottom from looking
too dark.

White background is done with photo editing. Once you have take your pictures you upload them into Photobucket to edit.

Then crop, adjust contrast/brightness, sharpen.

If you want to really make them stand out and make your background solid bright white go under the GEEK tab there is SMART RECOLOR - watch the video tutorial and it will show you how to do it.

This is a little work that can really help your ebay sales soar!

So in case everyone hasn't heard you can now offer a choice in your eBay listings. Which means you can offer 1 listing with a choice of sizes and colors at checkout when the winner bidder pays for their item.

HOWEVER...eBay is a little tricky with this now ladies. They have set the default search results to BEST MATCH which really means any way they want. If you offer a choice in your listings then your item title and description may not be the "best match". Also you still have only 1 choice in your item specifics field to specify color and size.

What does this all mean??? Well in short while you may save $ on some listings by offering a choice of size/color you may also reduce your visibility and search placement on the eBay site. Of course it's not the official ruling of eBay to say this but according to the track record I can see the writing on the wall.

Tread carefully and weigh your options carefully. Happy Selling!

eBay Mommys are Tired!

When somebody told me you can make money from home of course it sounds great, right? Make sure you read the fine print though. What I mean is while every job has ups and downs it's just plain hard to juggle kids, school, husband, etc and work a 60 hour work week selling on eBay!

It's not like the office you can walk away from, or "hey don't call me it's my day off!" This is the land of no sick days, no paid vacation and wipe noses and cook dinner while you're making online profits a reality.

So sometimes the old-fashioned 9-5 isn't such a bad deal after all...but miss all this lovely choas? No way! :-) I just need a long nap like this one!
